I recently purchased the Haupauge 950Q Tuner stick for my notebook after seeing a commercial about using a system as a DVR. The device works rather well for watching television, but fails rather spectacularly when I try to record media. The device works fine for around half an hour and then stops recording. Sometimes it will resume recording a few seconds later and save the new recording as a seperate file. However even then it does not record for more than a few minutes more before turning my tuner off, and simply quitting. All the while I've been using the record function of Windows Media Center on a Vista Home Premium.

I've tried leaving my system active, running media center, turning off my display while keeping the system on, and nothing seems to help. I have searched the online support pages, and forums, and have not found an answer to my problem. Please help.

Thank you,

library. I have constantly played music from the library so I didn't
know what happen. When I try to setup the library again it tells me that
a necessary component for Windows Media Center is not available. I have
not changed or downloaded anything different. I went to check if
Windows media Player is sharing media files. The message I get from that
is basically that something is missing. Now My Windows Media Player
will not even open. I am wondering if my Zune Player (80GB) has anything
to do with the problem. I was charging my player when this occurred but
I do this all the time so I am at a lost. I went to the "Problem
Reports and Solution" page. It has the Window Media Center symbol and
states the problem is caused by Windows. Then the solution is to update
windows; which I am fully updated. I tried to restore the system back to
a previous date but that did not work either. I am at a lost of what to
do any help would be appreciated.

Also as a side note the video
playback, TV, and pictures works fine in Media Center. My operating
system is Vista 64 bit.

Thank

I've been using Vista64 MC for more than 3 years, connected to Mediacom(cable TV). For no reason, I've suddenly lost guide listing for almost all of the channel. 10 or so still have the listing and goes 2 weeks. Others simply says "No data available".

I rebooted the system, I tried manually downloading guide(from setting-TV-guide), I re-run TV set up, I uninstalled Windows updated that are installed right before this happened, I re-set the system time. Nothing worked.

I don't do anything on this PC except to watch and record TV/DVD. Only add-on I have is Norton Antivirus and MyMovie3, but guide has been working with them installed.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I'm running a Vista Ult, pc in my living room as my "DVR" media center. I have a hdhomerun dual tuner pulling in qam hd channels and an avermedia dual tuner picking up the analog channels directly - so no set top box. I love the interface I have with using my PC as my dvr. Now the question is I would like to have access to recorded content in my spare bedroom and master bedroom as well as live tv and maybe Netflix. Can I use a Hava HD as essentially a media extender for my main media center pc? I don't know if I need it to act as a tuner exactly unless it's for live tv, I'm more or less looking for the ability to watch other shows I've already recorded on my dvr and movies I have stored. Any input from someone who has this setup is appreciated. I think this is what I'm after, but if I'm wrong, suggestions?

The machine is stock from Dell with the exception of the TVPack. I chose to never install any software on the machine unless it was from MS or Dell, so the only things I ever installed on it were MS patches and driver updates. Installing the TVPack was a mistake as that festering pile of bits has caused me no end of grief. (I cast nighmares on the management team responsible for releasing software in that state, may your sleep never be easy.)

I chose to upgrade vs. wipe and install x64 because I wanted to save my existing shows and was worried about rekeying the ATI DCT CableCard tuners. The initial setup of the DCT's with Comcast was quite painful and avoiding that activation is worth some hassle.

I would have rather there been an upgrade path to x64 for the increased memory management/utilization of the OS, but the cons outweighed the desire.

Anyhow, the upgrade process went very smoothly. The key is research, research, research.

Pre-upgrade:
- Run the upgrade advisor and check all links for information: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx
- Dell's information is (as usual) completely useless.
- Back up your shows, music and pictures (turns out it was not necessary, but...)
- Back up your configuration settings for your DCT keys (Network properties, support info): CableCard SN, Host, Data, Unit Addr for both DCTs.
- List your Series that you are recording.
- Find your Product Key and Digital Key. The product key is not needed, but the Digital Key is.

Upgrade:
- Run the upgrade and let it do it's thing. It took a couple hours.

Afterwards:
- Install all Important and some Recommended Windows Update updates. Choose drivers especially.
- You will need to run the TV Setup. Win 7 MC will find your old settings but you will have to reenter your Digital Key.

Everything now works. It seems much more stable so far (after only a few hours). The Xbox as extender works well. I haven't yet tested the DMA2100 in the bedroom yet, but all indications are that it should work.

If it works as well as initial indications, then my faith in MS may be cautiously restored.

Hope this helps. ;o)

Vista Media Center issue with audio using HDMI

I did an fresh install and got media center / dvd library to recognize movies on my hard drive. When I select play the video plays but the sound is messed up, it loops the sound (like a scratched CD. Any advise to fix it, please help
