Original XBOX 360 vs. Slim (as an extender)

I haven't seen a comparison posted elsewhere on this site, but if there is one, please point me in the right direction.

I have been using Windows 7 MC with an original Xbox 360 for a while now, but I was considering purchasing a second 360 for a separate room.  I was wondering if anyone has used both and could provide a comparison of the differences in Media Center.  I am aware of the different specs between the two systems.  I know that the slim is also much quieter (a definite plus), but does media center load any faster on one or the other?  Or does one system run smoother than the other?  Are there any other notable differences between the two?

    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    Q6600 Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz
    EVGA GeForce 8800GT 512MB
    6GB DDR2 800 Mhz
    ~3.2TB HDD space

Finally broke the 50 post barrier... I'm a full fledged member now!!

The only thing I've noticed is that some video files play smoother. I know the capabilities of the GPU haven't changed, but maybe putting everything on 1 die sped up mem/gpu/cpu bus speeds or something.

DVD is much quieter too. I own a Xbox Pro (Falcon) Arcade (Jasper) and now the Xbox S (Valhalla). I made a previous post at the bottom of this thread:

Re: Original XBOX 360 vs. Slim (as an extender)

I have my 360 set up to boot directly to media center (which brings up a whole other issue about it not always doing so--anyone else have that problem?)  I guess I've never timed it, but when the 360 does boot to media center the whole process (from the press of the power button to the time media center appears on screen) takes probably 20-35 seconds, which isn't a totally unbearable amount of time, but not exactly speedy either.  It sounds like the slim takes about the same length of time.  Is that accurate?

Both XBox 360s will be the same (hardware chip capability and software wise). The only difference should be the fan noise. The new ones should be much more quieter as a MCE extender than the oroginal XBox 360.

Is your account set to auto sign in to xbox live? The xbox will wait to load media center until you have connected to xbox live, and sometimes that takes several seconds even on speedy connections. Try disabling auto sign in and see if that makes a difference.

Are you sure about that taopin22?  Mine doesnt wait to sign in before loading Media Center.  Dont know if it makes any difference but my 360 is NOT one of the new models.

Well....I was sure, lol, based on my experience it takes it a few extra seconds. Mine will attempt to connect to xbox live first, then load media center. I am running a 20 meg connection with one of the Xbox 360 slims on a wireless N connection, so maybe its just lag with my router. All I know is it sped up boot time when I canceled auto sign in. Decided that if I was booting to media center I didnt need to worry about xbox live unless I was exciting media center for a game any way. Sorry I couldnt be more help.
