    Divx 7 HD MKV only?

So, Win7 MCE plays  DIVX and Xvid just fine out of the box,but not MKV.

I'd like to add MKV/H.264 support ,and leave the existing Win7-native codecs alone. The Divx7 stuff seems like it uses the foundation stuff and integrates cleanly.

I've tried doing a cutom install and unchecking everything EXCEPT the "MKV  on Win7" checkbox. This results in MKV fils that play without sound.

I tried again, this time adding the "MKV Splitter" direct show filter. Still no sound.

Before I start adding more components from the DIVX suite, any advice on what I need to ONLY get MKV support and yet not clobber the Win7 Divx/Xvid stuff?

    Thanks

If you want MKV only then Haali Media Splitter works very well. You may want to also install AC3Filter depending on your system

    Thanks. for the quick reply.

But don't you also need the H.264 decoder?

    No, W7 has a native H264 decoder.

Ah, OK. I'll try just a splitter and an AAC decoder then.

    Thanks.

I'm running just the splittter, no problems here. My best advice when it comes to codecs, only install what you need. Too much is a bad thing and can cause more problems than it can fix.

Just running the Divx and AC3 filter here. Works fine.

Ditto on only installing the extra codecs you need.
