Re: Big Screen EPG 'by Remote' Now Available for Beta Testing...
I have experienced the exact same symptoms on my Windows Mobile Device. Niall believes it must be something to do with my network settings or my firewall, but for the life of me I have not been able to work it out. If I use Remote Potato instead of By Remote on the same port then I can connect to that.

These problems seem to be occuring with combination of using NAT with port 80 (I think you got it working for different port right?) - so still trying to figure out why thats happening. I will have a good look at the tcp/ip listener for next version and try and figure out why it is throwing these errors (as it shouldn't be crashing or stopping the service as a result of client access).

Re: Big Screen EPG 'by Remote' Now Available for Beta Testing...
Niall,
I am able to get By Remote working from a PC on any Port I like but have never got it working from my mobile browser. In the end I gave up as I could not work out what was wrong and it appeared I was the only person with the issue so thought it must have been me.

I don´t remember if I have told I´m using WRT54G and the firmware DD-WRT, and I do have NAT enabled (because I need to forward ports) but I really think it´s not the cause of the bug, because I use both my notebook and my cellphone through the same wireless signal of the same router, and the problem only occurs on the mobile.

Re: Big Screen EPG 'by Remote' Now Available for Beta Testing...
Brought up my guide (Friday), wanted to to go Sunday to schedule a program - it's been cranking now for 15 minutes Processing EPG. It brings up the current day in about a minute. What's taking so long to bring up another day?? Finally killed it and trying again.
OK -after trying again, seems to be faster.

Hi
I’m really liking the look and functionality of By Remote
but for me, like BS EPG (I’ve never been able to get the auto channel matching
to work and although the xmltv data is supplied, it doesn’t always seem to pick
up the tags for HDTV or programme type), it doesn’t seem to work entirely.
By Remote installs without issue but when I run the web app
the epg data is displayed for the top 30 odd channels in the top batch but not
the bottom 10. In the second batch about the top 10 are displayed and the remainder
show as no programme data. However, when I change the number of channels that
can be displayed in each batch to 100, the top 45 are displayed properly in the
first batch with the remainder showing as no data, in the second batch the top
20 or so are showing and the remainder as no data.
I should also report the error previously reported where
channels that were previously in MC7, but which have since been removed at
source in TVSource are still showing up in By Remote. These are the SD versions
of some HD channels that I have now removed.
The functionality for the channels that are displayed
properly seems to work fine, I managed to record a program this morning but
currently only about 30% of the channels are populated properly. I also can’t really
sow how to set it up so I can access from a remote computer, I’m fine with
forwarding my router, but I don’t understand what address I would type in the
remote browser to access By Remote.
For the moment I’m going to try Remote Potato, but By Remote
is my preferred choice if I can get it working.
Thanks

helderlima:NiallG, will the new version be released today or tomorrow?
I'm working on it today - so just trying to figure out where to draw the line on the new features/fixes - so most likely in next 24-48 hours. I'm assuming you saw the big long list of new stuff for this version (on xpmediacenter before it was taken down) - and there's even more than that being included too. (so it's a more major update then previous ones).
When it's ready/available I will announce it on my blog, by twitter (follow user: 'niall_bigscreen') and xpmediacenter.com.au (depending on when it goes back up from the big upgrade this weekend) - not sure which order that will happen (but will of course be made available for download on the bigscreenglobal.com site before these).
nb: Hardcoded Expiry date will be extended to at least 1-May on new version - after that release - I will move it accross to using an issued Serial Number from bigscreenglobal.com and server based activation (so I can keep extending the expiry date for users without them having to do a reinstall - as per the BSEPG trial).

Hi -
The issues with using BSEPG and mapping the xmltv data to channels should be fixable (I have a few thousand people using this now without issue) - so I'd really suggest you use the xpmediacenter.com.au forum to post your problems (when it's back up from the big site update) - and find out what you need to do to fix it (otherwise the step by step guides in the help file should sort you out). By Remote then assumes that you have everything setup/working in Media Center (otherwise you of course won't get to see new guide data etc).
With regards to the Channel display - I'm not sure what tuner types etc you are using - but in current release (v0.5g) theres a few 'known' issues with DVBLink (and other) sources - which resulted in additional unwanted channels being shown (ie. channels that were deleted/blocked). This bug has now been fixed in the new version that's about to come out (will be this weekend) - and should provide a 100% match of what gets displayed in Media Center EPG.

Re: Big Screen EPG 'by Remote' Now Available for Beta Testing...
I´ve just read your twitter and I´m really excited about the wished and now available features, like viewing and managing recorded tv files. Thanks a lot!
By the way, were you able to fix the problem of the XHTML version on Nokia browser?

Hi Niall, Just wanted to report that with the newer version 0.5H all the problems I mentioned with By Remote have been resolved, everything looks good. However I still can't access it remotely, but this is down to my incompetence rather than any failings in the software i think. I've forwarded the port on my modem to router and then from the router to the PC and from what I can work out I should just have to enter the IP address of my PC into the browser? but I get nothing. I'm sure there's something else I need to do but I can't see what it is...
On EPG I'll have another look when I get home (travelling) but the issues are not stopping me from enjoying your work and I'd still be happy to subscribe when you get to that point. I'd really like to take all the data from the xml file, which I get from Digiguide and as you suggest I'll get back to you on xpmediacenter.com.au. Thanks

Re: Big Screen EPG 'by Remote' Now Available for Beta Testing...
If you're trying to access the EPG from outside your home, you need to use the IP address of your ROUTER - hopefully, your PC isn't connected directly to the internet! Get a free dynamic DNS service like no-ip or dyndns.

Thanks, but thats like telling someone to replicate the sistine chapel by showing them a postcard of it. I found a useful guide to setting this up if anyone else is interested here http://www.dyndnscommunity.com/questions/16/how-do-i-access-my-device-from-outside-my-home-network. It takes you through step by step on what to do. Now I just need my gf to go to bed so i can try this out. There is an advantage to being in a different time zone to your PC after all!

Re: Big Screen EPG 'by Remote' Now Available for Beta Testing...
Alright I finally installed the latest beta. The interface looks good, and works well. I also tried it from my WinMo phone. IE displayed both the webkit version and the XHTML version, though it displayed the webkit version in simple text. Opera tried to display the webkit version (the GUI looked like what the author intended unlike IE) but functionally it didn't work right, as my version of Opera zooms in when you tap once, meaning you have to zoom before clicking anything. Not a big deal. It displayed the XHTML version fine, just like IE did. A couple comments. First, there was a delay from when I installed the beta, which started the service, and the time when the web content was actually available. Not sure how long it took. Could have been anywhere from 15 minutes to 5 hours as I didn't try it again until about 5 hours after installing it. Easy to punch a hole in my router. I am forwarding something other than 83. There were no firewall issues with the 7MC machine. I noticed I can't change series options. Mouse scrolling doesn't work in any screen other than the main EPG, in XP/IE7. Also on the capacity calculation, I have a 1.5TB drive and apportioned 800GB to recorded TV. I run it completely full usually but it says the following about my capacity: Total Size: 1,397GB / -541GB (93%) Available of 800GB (Quota) / 810GB of Recorded TV Files Obviously something is calculating wrong. It should probably say 0GB (0%) available of quota.
My initial reaction is, once streaming is implemented and all the features are in place, this will probably be worth buying for a reasonable amount of money.

Re: Big Screen EPG 'by Remote' Now Available for Beta Testing...
I have a suggestion. In the "Guide" section where you can see TV Series, Movies, Music, etc., how about a section HD?
This software is great, by the way! I really missed having WebGuide when I switched to Windows 7. Now I don't miss it at all!
Glenn HP Media Center PC m8200n, AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, 6GB RAM, Win 7 Pro x64, (1) 500GB SATA/300, (1) 2TB HD, (2) PVR150MCE, (1) HD HomeRun, (3) X-Box 360's for HD extenders. (1) Linksys 2100 wireless extender for the guest room.
