Re: Any interest: Extender Transcode DVD?

I'm working on it, it is just slow as I have to go to my daughter's room to test =0. Plus I'm working on a lot of different projects as once, I usually prioritize based on what makes my wife the happiest. Right now it is a remote control application. That will be published tonight. Yammm is still my baby in terms of projects but I'm making sure to get it right before publishing. Mount Image is pretty stable but a few improvements are going in for those blessed with better TV than me =)

I am not complaining, but verry happy to hear you're working on transcode 1.1.

Here's a few thing I noticed that you might want to know about:

    1. Mount Image: When in my DVD library, when pressing "play" on a movie, the screen "cannot play Video" stays until you click "OK", and only then it progresses to the "mounting image" screen.

    2. Transcode: I can't skip to the next or previous chapter, or pause, or any of that,. I must be hitting the wrong keys, but it's not working for me. There are some controls on my xbox that make the movie freeze and after that I am unable to continue watching. I am sure I am doing something wrong but I have not figured it out yet.

Thanks for doing all the hard work! And have a great Thanksgiving too!

Re: Any interest: Extender Transcode DVD?

For #1, what remote are you using? I may send you a debug version that has logging. But can it be after turkey day? I'm taking tomorrow and Thursday off of the computer, too much cooking to do.

For #2, some of it a limitation of using a playlist instead of a direct file. Thought v1.1 will help out. I've got some ideas for a later version if it doesn't help, part of a discussion I had with MSBob. I'd like to check with him to see if he has any objects to me including it in this app or not. I'm actually very happy with my v1.1 menu, I think I worked out a creative solution for getting a menu. It got my geeky excited at least.

#1: For my PC I use theremote that camewith my Dell Dimension 9100. For my TV I use a Harmony 880. They both exhibit the same behaviour. Note that I do not click "OK" on the DVD cover in the library, and then say "play". That works flawless. Instead I click "Play" directly on the DVD cover to get the error.

#2 Can't wait to see the menu. That would be really helpful. Even an alphaor beta with menu would be preferable over current vesion. If it half works I can ditch PS3 MS (and java, yay!)

Love to get a debug and do testing for you! After Turkey day is fine (not that you need to ask for permission, of course, lol) Don't forget to take Black Friday off too. Too many good deals on DVDs at Walmart to be programming!

    Hi Mikinho,

Is this still being worked on? I have been looking for updates just about daily but haven't seen any. I sent you a PM here with some addtl info like my email address so if you still wanted to, you could send me your beta version 1.1 to try.

Re: Any interest: Extender Transcode DVD?

    Hi Robert,

Yes it is being developed but it is slightly behind Yammm. A new version of Yammm is out on the 12th, from there I'll fix the few bugs remaining on the menu system.

I'd like to say next Wednesday but I honestly don't know for sure. My plan is to release the update to this, Mount Image and 1 other tool mid next week and then take a break from Media Center programing until the holidays are done with.

Btw, sorry for not responding to your PM. I don't check my often. I've added you to my Google Talk if you do have any questions

Awesome! I am awaiting this with anticipation. As far as I'm concerrned, your tools require some very minor polish and error fixing to be the holy grail of extendering. :)

Here are some of the errors I've encountered with the transcoder (using full iso backups of the DVDs and only your tools to mount and watch through an xbox 360 extender):

    * Star Wars Ep 3: skipped over the scrolling text part in the beginning of the movie. The weird this was that it did the 20th century fox fanfare and then ontinued with the part right after the opening scroll. It waqs a better movie that way, lol.

    * Disney's Atlantis did something really weird, switching audio tracks at random throughout the movie.

Hope this helps (and does not delay the release!)

    Thanks for doing all this!

    mikinho,

Your two addins have solved my problem.  I can now watch DVD .ISO images via my extender.  Its the solution I have been looking for.  BTW thank you for putting Alcohol 120 support into your mount tool. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the feedback, had a rough day so glad to see it was helpful. There are a few bugs I'm working on but I keep getting delayed and with the holidays it may be delayed even further

Just added Yammm to the mix, works great.  A few questions, how often does the service poll?  Should i run it on my WHS or my main Media Server PC?

Re: Any interest: Extender Transcode DVD?

First off, background on me:  Using VMC for a while now, with many ripped (VIDEO_TS, not ISO) DVD images of our movies (mostly kid stuff) in the DVD Library.  Got a linksys DMA2200 last January, and found, tested, and purchased Vader's Transcoder to send DVD's to the extender.  I actually love that I can keep the menus on the main PC, but out on the extender, the 1-button entry to main movie is actually a nice "feature" (based on a limitation of the extender).

I've been slowly testing Win7 to take the plunge and don't want to lose any key capability, such as this one.  As a licensed Vader's user, I believe we were able to get all the updates, but I never got the one he released in June/July that solved the Win7 issues.  Now, it seems to have disappeared from the web, as well as Vader's presence.  I don't know what is going on with OML between MSBob and Vader, but I'll let them work that out.

In the meantime, I came across mikinhos solution as a very basic and lightweight way to stream the VOBs.  I went ahead and tried it and it worked for a standard movie.  By "worked" I mean the movie played, with the following limitations.  Please verify that this is the standard experience for everyone:

    1. The first of the main movie plays, and the progress bar indicates ~25 minutes total (likely just the length of the first 1GB VOB).  FF/RW does not work, but 30s skip does (albeit slow on mine, but this is completely expected and I'm used to it).

    2. Once the end of the ~25 minutes is reached, a slight gap in playback occurs as it moves to the next VOB with the "buffering" indicated.  The next scene was definitely the next correct scene of the movie though, so that is verified.

    3. Now the progress bar was pegged to the end of the new file, still ~25 minutes but a slightly different total time.  Now hitting FF/RW did funny things, and due to lag between hitting buttons and seeing what actually happens, it was difficult to debug/log while being half asleep.  Progress bar was still always pegged to the end of the file.  I *think* that 30s skip forward *was* actually skipping forward but could not tell from the progress bar, and it was a movie I was not familiar with the scenes.  Also seemed to jump between VOBs maybe using FF/RW?  Not sure but I suddenly got the beginning of the credits at one point.

All in all, I'm greatly relieved that in upgrading to Win7, I won't be taking this capability away from the family!  Getting it working like Vader's used to (one continuous stream, and once pre-buffered, all 30s skip worked) would be gravy.  If anyone still following this and the old thread (JackLuminous, perhaps?) has the rar file for Vader's v2.2.2 I would love to try that out.

Mikinho, keep up the great work.  If you get the seamless playlist stuff working, I can easily justify with the wife a donation going to your "animal rescue efforts". Big Smile

EDIT: Just to note, VMC machine is Vista Home Premium 32 bit, and 7MC is same machine with Win7 32 bit.

Just wanted to throw my two cents in. This is probably the plug-in I'm looking forward to most once I get my HTPC built. I played around with the current version and while it sort of works, it never seems to choose the correct audio track for the movies I tried it on. Any chance it'll be done by the time the Ceton tuner launches?
    HTPC Build: | Moneual MonCaso 312 case | MSI 785GM-E65 w/Radeon HD 4200 IGP | AMD Athlon II x2 3.1ghz | 4GB Kingston DDR3 | Samsung 8x Blu-Ray | TotalMedia Theatre 3 | Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | A BIG GAPING PCI-E HOLE WHERE A CETON INFINITV4 SHOULD BE

Random Rage. Because your mother said so, that's why.

It will be released before then. I just got back in town yesterday and will have a lot more relax time this month for Media Center development.
