Re: vmcPlayIt 1.5.0 (2/13/2010) NEW GALLERY UI : PlayOn (Netflix/Hulu/YouTube/...) media server front-end for VMC
onlinespending:
I am using the latest version of Playon Server and vmcPlayit on Windows 7 32-bit. Whenever it reaches the end of playing a file I receive the following error.
"Cannot Play Video
Windows Media Center cannot open the file."
I can hit back and continue to play more files, so this appears to be just an inconvenience, but I'm wondering how I can rectify this problem.
Thanks!
Have you tried increasing the buffering size - it might be do to reaching the end of the video buffer file prematurely.

I can try, but the entire video plays just fine, and doesn't end prematurely. The error occurs only after it's reached the true end of the video (and not so prematurely, the expected end).

I see the same thing. Then, if I try to play another stream I keep getting the error, until restart.

When playing Hulu video's, I'm getting what I can only call, a Hulu toolbar on the top and bottom of the screen. The top one even has a search bar. Where is this coming from?

Also, is VMCPlayIt forcing the quality to High?

vmcPlayIt simply uses the stream provided by PlayOn (via it's DLNA interface), so really your questions pertain to how PlayOn creates the stream.
From my understanding, what PlayOn does for Hulu (and Netflix) is basically capture the output of the player - so this is why you might see the hulu "loading" screen. It does not force any quality, you get what you would see if you ran the player yourself at that time.

What I don't understand is the countup for the percentages when you first select the movie to play. It never stops at 25% like my settings, it'll download the entire thing and start (if I don't hit play now)

I have the same question. Don't get me wrong, I love vmcPlayIt. But how is that part supposed to work? I wish it just play when the buffer is set to the % I set in settings...

In the settings, you specify the % of the entire video to buffer (as reported by the content length of the video) - what you are seeing in on the video buffering page is the percent complete (from 1 to 100%) based on the total of the % specified in the setting. This might very a bit, based on the content length reported for the video. I've seen the content length reported be way overstated in some cases, so in that case you might be buffering more than the % you set in the settings.
Clear as mud?

Actually that makes sense... So why the "Play" button while its buffering? Is there any risk in playing prior to the buffering page being complete - will the system automatically re-buffer?
*EDIT*
Nevermind, saw one of your posts earlier in the thread about this feature...
Yes, it will continue ... you don't have to wait for the entire buffering to complete, you can press the "Play Now" button - but if you find that you start "hitting" the end of the stream too soon, you can either wait longer and/or increase the buffering size. Basically, the buffering size specifies how much (based on the reported total size of the stream) to buffer before automatically playing the video. The "Play Now" button forces playing of the video based on whats in the buffer so far. Buffering continues as you watch the video as well.

Eric...on vmcPlayIt 1.4.0, I was able to watch Hulu videos, etc. on my Linksys DMA-2200. I upgraded to the latest PlayOn and vmcPlayIt 1.5.0 and now whenever I try to watch Hulu videos, etc. the following screen displays on my DMA-2200: "The PlayOn Virtual Audio Device is configured as default".... vmcPlayIt works fantastic on my Xbox 360 though. On my Media Center PC running PlayOn, in both the Playback tab and the Recording tab, my sound card and not the PlayOn Virtual Audio is set to default. I've deinstalled/reinstalled vmcPlayIt 1.4.0 and 1.5.0, PlayOn, rebooted multiple times to no avail. With Pandora added as a PlayOn channel with the latest version, I'm really dieing to use vmcPlayIt on my DMA-2200. Thanks in advance for the help

Playon just released a native plugin for Pandora and it does not work with this app. FYI

Hmmm, I was able to get Pandora to work on the xbox via vmcplayit.... Created a Pandora account, added a couple artist stations, enabled the channel in Playon, opened vmcplayit, scrolled to my artists, chose an artist station, let it start streaming...
Which parts aren't working for you?

Well, I'm guessing it's hit or miss. This new streaming screen doesn't make any sense at all and it's hard to tell if it has made any progress. It's hard to find the streaming settings useful if 10% of the time it actually works.

That is an issue with a recent update to PlayOn itself. the update added a new audio device as the primary. You need to go in and make your actual audio device be the primary.
