The Green Button was created as a place for users of Windows XP Media Center Edition™ and home theater PC enthusiasts to meet, communicate, share ideas, and learn from each other's experiences.

Started in January 2003 by Windows Media Center enthusiasts, The Green Button has grown to become the premier community for people interested in this exciting, emerging trend of the entirely digital, all-in-one home entertainment center. As of January 2008 this site has grown to see over 100,000 members—demonstrating a strong following of people who are truly excited about the media center PC and of exciting things to come.

In recognition of the value and success of The Green Button, Microsoft Corporation acquired the website in January 2008. The goal since then has been to maintain those aspects of The Green Button that have been so valuable to Windows Media Center enthusiasts, and to seek new ways to expand such value.

As The Green Button continues to grow in the years to come, the goal will be to provide visitors and long-term participants with the latest news, downloads, and media center information available—and to foster a community of enthusiastic Windows Media Center users.
